Age Restriction
Sri Lanka has a year restriction for used vehicles. Vehicles imported for personal use can not be older than 3 years. Cars iported for business use must not be older than 5 Years
Road Worthiness Inspection (JAAI Inspection)
All used or new cars imported from Japan to Sri Lanka must under go a "Road Worthiness Inspection". Road Worthiness Inspection in case of all imports to Sri Lanka is performed by JAAI.
JAAI (Japan Automobile Appraisal Institute) is a non profit organization under the supervision of Japanese Goverment.
It performs the Road Worthiness Inspection and Issues a Certificate. Should a used vehicle not pass the inspection, repairs must be performed in order pass the inspection and be able to import it to Sri Lanka . If for some reason a vehicle arrives in Sri Lanka without JAAI Certificate costly penalties are applicable to the importer or the owner of the vehicle.
All used cars exported to Sri Lanka by JapanTradeCar have a JAAI certificate.
